4th posting: Online Databased.

For this week posting its about the online databased learning. Where we were ask to go to PTSL which is Perpustakaan Tun Sri Lanang during tutorial hour. There we were ask to access the various types of online databases which had been subscribed by our own library. For an example EBCOhost, LISAnet, Lexis Nexis, SCOPUS, Oxford Journal, NSTP media and many more. Databases being set up is to ease up students and also researchers work on searching for more information other than hitting the unwanted web-page. By doing this students get information faster than going to the journal rack.

EBSCOhost
EBSCOhost was started as a homepage before it turned into an on-line journal database. EBSCOhost is the most-used premium online information resources for ten of ten thousand instituition world wide which represents million users. Besides that, it also provides subscription management.books, online journals,A-Z solutions and many more which is related to education. EBSCOhost is more complex then LISAnet and it has alot of buttons which can help the users on finding their data easily.

LISAnet
LISAnet or also known as Library Science Abstracts which provides references of current awareness in science informations. 'LISAnet has abstract and index of 500 periodicals (dating from 1969) from over 60 countries along with unpublished academic and institutional research from the Current Research in Library and Information Science Database (since 1981)' which was according to University of Pittsburgh's Digital Library.

There are for topics which had been given to us in order to finish up this task. And among those for topics I'm going to discuss on e-learning. Besides that, I'll discuss this topic in two different databased learning which is EBSCOhost and LISAnet.

Many people aren't aware about e-learning eventhough e-learning has become a corpus of knowledge which can be easily access by all ages and its being us widely particularly in the higher education institutions. According toBrockbank "E-Learning, as a whole, represents a wide range of organizational activities and technologies, including distance education, computer-based training, web-based training, Internet-based training, courseware delivery, and online learning and testing. ELearning represents the total integration of multimedia, instructor-led, and real-time training in a human, collaborative environment". E-Learning has become such an integral part of our society that potential markets have emerged in elementary and secondary education environments as well as in postsecondary institutions and corporations. The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (2007) has noted that e-learning is distancelearning can be characterized as an environment in which: Instructors and students are physically separated.A combination of different types of media may be utilized. Instructors are not the only source for learning (i.e. students can learn from one another's experiences). Interaction can occur between teacher and student, student and student, and groups of students.
The interaction received through eLearning and distance learning provides users with many benefits that are not offered in a traditional classroom setting. By participating in distance learning, students are able to complete their curricula at their own desired speed. The learning process remains comfortable with eLearning because students can advance to different subject matter when they see fit and can avoid any pace pressures that may come with classroom learning. In customary education settings, students must continue learning at the same pace as their peers. However, this system can intellectually hinder the students because those who advance quickly through a topic must stay at the same pace with those who may need to spend additional time with the same topic. Distance learning avoids this conflict and focuses instead on the needs of the individual student.
