First of all snoring actually cause by parts of the nose and throat' to be more specific the soft palate vibrates as you breathe in and out. While sleeping, the muscles that help keep your airways open relax and become floppy. This causes the airways to narrow and vibrate more, making snoring more likely.
Other than the natural causes there are also other factors which could lead to a person to snore. for an example:
- Alcohol or sleeping tablets which relax the muscles even more
- Being overweight will put pressure on the airways
- Colds, allergies, nasal polyps, a damaged or crooked nose can block the nose, causing you to breathe through your mouth
- Smoking. Usually smokers are twice as likely as non-smokers to snore because their airways get inflamed and blocked
- Sleeping on your back
